staghorn sumac

rhus typhina

Staghorn sumac is a Vitamin C POWERHOUSE. As discussed extensively in the sea buckthorn section, Vitamin C is one of the vitamins our bodies won’t STORE, so we need to consume it daily to maintain the benefits. Optimal absorption & action of Vit C requires FLAVONOIDS: when you get your C directly from whole food/ herb sources, YOU GET IT ALL- because they naturally occur together. Sumac is a great thing to take at the onset & throughout the duration of a cold.

Bursting with antioxidants, it protects the skin, providing some support against UV damage. Its high flavonoid content make it a great anti-inflammatory, reliving muscle soreness POST WORKOUT.

Sumac is a star at regulating blood sugar- the trickle down effects of this include weight management, stable energy, stable moods, hormonal balance & brighter skin.

Anti-microbial & anti-fungal, sumac is great for oral health and in cooking as an extra measure against food-borne illness.

With a flavor identical to lemon, sumac adds a bright & sour note to all it adorns. We blend it with cayenne peppers, rosehips & calendula in our Dragon Dust- a tangy, spicy salt akin to Tajin, that’s excellent for coming & that makes a show-stopping rim for a margarita, bloody mary or michelada.

We harvest ours in the wild in northern Vermont, in August.*
